THE excess of sand on Troon's promenade, benches and car parks has caused outrage and fury causing one local to compare the condition to Syria.

Kenneth McCracken who has lived in Troon for six years claims he experiences the problem frequently as he walks along the sea front every morning.

Speaking to the Troon Times he said: "I walk along the promenade in Troon every morning but it is totally covered in sand. I have called South Ayrshire Council about this and they say they will clean it up when they have the time.

"I think it is totally unacceptable nothing is going to be done and makes this a health hazard. I saw a wee girl recently falling off her bike when she tried to get through the sand but she fell off. She could have been hurt.

"Someone should be making an effort to clean the place. It is just like Syria right now."

Mr McCracken is not the only one who is angered by the mess as Troon Community Councillors frequently discuss the issue, asking councillors to solve the problem.

They feel that it is not just the promenade that has been affected but the car park at South Beach as well, where too much sand prevents cars to park safely.

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of the build-up  of sand on Troon Promenade and have already started to clear it. The work will continue this week and we will remove the sand as quickly as possible.”
