FOOTBALL and rugby fans in Ayr are being asked to dress pretty in pink to support an Ayshire cancer awareness campaign this weekend.

The 'A Dash of Pink' event will both Ayr United and Ayr Rugby Club play in black and pink in their fixtures this Saturday, July 29 - and the two clubs are encouraging their supporters to do the same.

The awareness day is being organised in aid of Ayrshire Cancer Support and testicular cancer charity Cahonas.

Both teams have home matches on Saturday, with Ayr United playing Alloa at Somerset Park in their final Viaplay Cup Group A fixture at 3pm and the Ayrshire Bulls hosting Watsonians in the FOSROC Super Series Championship at 5.30pm.

Ayr United fans are being urged to set off on their own 'Dash of Pink' after the final whistle against Alloa by heading along to take in the action at Millbrae, where there's free entry to the Bulls' match for all Ayr United season ticket holders and those with match tickets to the Alloa game.

Ayr United managing director Graeme Mathie said: “We are delighted to be supporting the ‘Dash of Pink’ initiative - these conversations have been part of our growing relationship with Ayr Rugby Club and we are proud to be working together to support two fantastic charities.

“We’ve no doubt the day will be a lot of fun and will engage the whole community and we are encouraging all of our supporters to get involved in the event and help raise much needed funds to support the great work of Cahonas and Ayrshire Cancer Support."

Brian Williamson, chairman of Ayr Rugby Club, added: “Since Ayr Rugby Club became a charity at the end of last year, we have been working closely with Ayr United to see how we can better serve our local community and the town of Ayr.

“The launch of Ayr United’s pink and black away strip in June signalled the start of many great things to come.

"We look forward to welcoming to Millbrae all the fans and supporters who make the 'Dash of Pink' from Somerset Park!

“Ayrshire Cancer Support and Cahonas are tremendous charities and we are thankful to them for the support they been giving to one of our own, Euan Hamilton, a star of our 1st XV who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in March this year.

"We urge the sporting and wider community to get involved in this fun event and help raise as much money as possible.”
