South Ayrshire Depute Provost Mary Kilpatrick has unveiled a memorial bench at Rozelle Park in Ayr to mark International Workers' Memorial Day 2024.

International Workers' Memorial Day commemorates all workers who have lost their lives to workplace illness or injury.

This global initiative is also an opportunity to promote health and safety and minimise workplace incidents, many of which are preventable.

Last year to mark International Workers' Memorial Day, South Ayrshire Provost Iain Campbell helped plant a cherry tree.

The new memorial bench was placed alongside the tree and unveiled as part of the service.

Depute Provost Kilpatrick gave a speech followed by a two minute's silence and laying of floral tributes in memory of those who have lost their lives.

She said: "It's important to remember those who have lost their lives due to work-related illness or injury, and the installation of the memorial bench in Rozelle is a touching tribute.

"The service not only offered an opportunity to pay our respects, but to think about the steps that can be taken to make workplaces safer and reduce unnecessary risk and harm going forward."
