Celtic legend Martin O'Neill ran his eye over Ayr United's stars during their Scottish Championship victory on Saturday.

Goals from Jamie Murphy and Mark McKenzie in their victory over Queen's Park lifted Ayr to sixth in the table.

New boss Scott Brown then revealed that a special visitor had been watching on from the stands during the match, and came to see him during the warm-ups.

He told The Scottish Sun: “I turned round and it was Martin. I never played under him for Celtic but got to know him well through work with the club’s foundation charity.

“He is brilliant and any tips I can steal from someone like him, you need to listen.”

“He came here instead of going to Celtic Park, which was nice of him!"

Ruari Paton equalised for the home side after Jamie Murphy's goal, before they were reduced to ten men after Sean Welsh was sent off.

Ayr will welcome high-flying Dundee United to Somerset on Saturday as the new gaffer looks to continue his winning start.
