An Ayr football team have collected more than 50 care packages to send to military personnel abroad.

Whitletts Vics 2010s came together to collect the shoe boxes filled with toiletries, sweets and other personal favourites to life the morale of men and women serving abroad.

Team secretary Toni Tait says the boys wanted to show their generosity on behalf of captain Scott Boyle, who's dad Scott is serving with the 2 Scots.

She said: "Scott’s brother John is also one of our coaches, and we realise that this is a very tough and emotional time for families.

"We decided that as we had been shown so much support with our recent hidden team competition that we would like to give back.

"We all came together to donate shoe boxes filled with toiletries, sweets, activities and some personal favourites to hopefully lift the men and women who are currently serving.

"The boys, parents and grandparents have got involved. We also had an ex-serviceman who donated ten boxes along with David Tait Repair Gas who also donated ten boxes."

The team also recently ran a competition to win a home kit, which was won by Jazzsay Photography.

Toni added: "It’s been absolutely amazing to be shown so much support from so many local businesses as without them, all the kits for the new season wouldn’t have been possible."
